MENOMONIE (September 18, 2013) -
Paige Meyer (So, Beldenville) did what she could to PREVENT a shutout. A rather odd statement for a goalkeeper.
But Meyer, normally one of UW-Stout's starting goalkeepers, suited up to play in the field tonight and took a shutout away from the board in scoring Stout's only goal of the evening late in a 6-1 loss to Viterbo University on a foggy Wednesday night at Nelson Field.
The V-Hawks (5-2-0) scored six consecutive goals before Meyer took a pass from freshman
Sarah Stein (Verona) with nine minutes remaining in the contest and punched the ball into the net. The Blue Devils (2-6-0) had a few opportunities in the final 13 minutes of the game. Meyer had a nice shot stopped by Viterbo's Alicia Seachord and minutes later Seachord guessed correctly on a penalty kick and swallowed the shot in her midsection.
The V-Hawks scored in the 12th minute of the game, and just kept coming, scoring in the 17th, 33rd, 44th, 46th, and 61st minutes. Liz Conjeo had two goals for Viterbo.
Stout will host UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. in the conference opener for both teams.
