LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout: In only his second career start, junior quarterback Hank Kujak (Blair) threw for a career high 272 yards and three touchdowns in leading Stout to a season-opening 35-20 victory over Dakota Wesleyan Sept. 7. He also ran for 47 yards on just five carries. His favorite target on the afternoon was reciever Trevor Morning (Sr, Bloomer), who pulled in 7 passes for a career best 212 yards and two touchdowns. Morning had five receptions of over 20 yards on the afternoon and averaged 30.29 yards per reception. On the ground, freshman Adolfo Pacheco (South Elgin, Ill) led the way with 67 yards on 16 carries while Tanner Kuehn (Jr, Fairchild) chipped in 56 and a touchdown. Stout debuted a new no-huddle offense that gained 507 total offensive yards, more than any game last season. |  Complete Story and Box Score

LAST TIME OUT: University of Jamestown: The Jimmies fell to Concordia-Moorhead 39-14 last Saturday as they were only able to gain 288 yards of total offense. Trailing 32-0 at the half, Jamestown finally got on the board early in the third when senior defensive back Nick Klawon picked off a pass and took it 51 yards to the house. Jamestown added another score in the fourth when quarterback Beau Erickson connected with reciever Xavier Munoz on a 20-yard scoring strike. Munoz finished with eight grabs for 111 yards on the afternoon. The loss dropped the Jimmies to 0-3 on the season.  | Complete Story |  Box Score

WHEN THEY MET LAST YEAR:  In the season opener for the Blue Devils last season, Stout defeated Jamestown 31-0, dominating both sides of the ball throughout the game. Quarterback Michael Blizel went 16-36 for 262 yards and two touchdowns, with Trevor Morning hauling in four of those passes for 155 yards and a touchdown. Running back Eric Brown ran for 94 yards and as a team the Blue Devils outgained the Jimmies 157-16 on the ground and 452-157 overall.

THE SERIES: Stout leads the series 5-0. The teams have played every year since 2008. Before last years shutout, the Blue Devils won the previous two games by a combined total of only six points, winning 27-24 in 2010 and 20-17 in 2011.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Offense: Hank Kujak (Jr, Blair); Defense: Tyler Naatz (Jr, Menomonie); Special teams: Zak Snell (Castaic, Calif); Scout players of the week: Offensive:  Logan Stoa (Fr, Hawley, Minn) ; Defensive: Blake Strehlow (Fr, Suring).

WHO'S WHO: UW-Stout: WIth a ton of newcomers on both sides of the ball as well as unveiling a new offense, there were a lot of questions going into the first game against Dakota Wesleyan. Despite giving up over 400 yards on defense, the Blue Devils were able to come up with some big plays that kept the game out of reach from the Tigers. First year starter Dominque Rhodes (Jr, Milwaukee) came up with an interception in the first half that Stout was able to turn into a touchdown and defensive lineman Alec Zoern (Jr, Germantown) forced a fumble inside Dakota Wesleyan's own five yard line that safety Collin Laursen (Jr, Mondovi) fell on to get the ball back for the Blue Devils. With safeties Tyler Naatz and Damian Guggenbuehl also returning as starters, the defensive secondary looks to be in fairly decent shape. Naatz and Laursen both earned WIAC honorable mention honors. Jamie Rohrig saw a considerable amount of time on the defensive line and was second on the team in sacks before injury ended his season late in the year. Other notable defenders include linebackers David Lindell and Spencer Adler and defensive end David Goebel, who is making the switch from fullback to the defensive line. Goebel will be a four year starter for the Blue Devils and the two-time all-WIAC honorable mention selection has started all 30 games since arriving on campus as a freshman.Stout's total defense finished fourth in the WIAC last season, up from sixth the previous two seasons. Naatz finished second in the WIAC in tackles last year and Lindell finished fifth in tackles for loss (12.0). On the offensive side of things, quarterback Hank Kujak showed great poise and decision making in only his second career start, making several big plays throughout the game with both his legs and his arm. He had runs of 18 and 25 yards and completed seven passes that went for more than 20 yards. Up front, the left side of the line is anchored by guard David Reyes and tackle Devon Greiber, both starters last season. Reyes was a second team all-WIAC selection as a junior and earned preseason honorable mention honors by USA Football. Running backs Tanner Kuehn and Adolfo Pacheco  shared the bulk of the carries against Dakota Wesleyan, with Kuehn picking up 56 yards and a touchdown while Pacheco ended with 67 yards. Trevor Morning and Cody Rosemeyer lead a talented group of recievers that also includes Matt Small and Zak Snell. Snell did a little of everything for the Blue Devils last Saturday, catching two passes for 27 yards, returning a kick for 43 that he nearly took all the way back, and handled the puntingand kick-off duties after kicker Ricky Marteney left with an injury early in the second half. For his efforts, he was named the Stout special teams player of the week. Marteney will be back this week and continue his climb up the Stout all-time scoring list, where he currently sits fifth with 170 total points.  | 2012 Stats

WHO'S WHO: University of Jamestown: The Jimmies are already three games into their season, with this weeks matchup against  Stout their fourth game of the year. Sitting at 0-3, the Jimmies have been outscored by an average of 18.7 points per game. They lost a number of key players from last year's defensive unit, including defensive back AJ Downs, the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I) Co-Defensive Player of the year. With only five starters returning on defense, the Jimmies have had a tough time early in the season holding opposing offenses. However, top tackler and A.I.I. All-Conference selection JT Pesch is back and picking up right where he left off, with 31 tackles, 14 solo in the first three games. Also returning is senior defensive back Nick Klawon, who had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown last week against Concordia-Moorhead, his second pick of the season. Up front, defensive end Steve David has four sacks on the season. David has recorded at least one sack in each of the Jimmies games this season. On offense, the Jimmies return eight starters from a year ago with the only key loss being running back Lance Johansen, who rushed for 990 yards a season ago. The offensive line sees two A.I.I. All-Conference selections return in Mike Findlay and Sean Emery. Emery and Findlay are tasked with clearing holes for running back D'Marco Smith, who has carried the ball 36 times for 163 yards so far this year. Quarterback Beau Erickson, who saw limited action a year ago is back behind center for the Jimmies. He is averaging 200 passing yards per game and is second on the team in rushing with 103 yards. He has completed 64% of his passes and has five TDs against only two picks. At reciever, Michael Sena (13 receptions, 121 yards), Casey Glenn (10, 130, 2 TD), and Trent Roemerich (10, 66) have been Erickson's favorite targets up to this point, although last week Xavier Munoz came on strong in his first game of the year with eight grabs for 111 yards and a touchdown. | 2013 Stats
