MENOMONIE (August 30, 2013) - On a perfect evening for soccer, UW-Stout opened the 2013 season as Alix Hyduke (Sr, Duluth, Minn) scored two goals and the Blue Devil defense kept Concordia (Wis) University off the scoreboard in a 3-0 win at Nelson Field.

Hyduke, last season's Blue Devil scoring leader, picked up where she left off when she scored unassisted in the 11th minute of the game.

Two minutes later, freshman Kelly Conn (Menasha), who tallied 144 points during a high school career, scored her first collegiate goal, scoring from the left corner of the box with an assist by Addy Maher (So, Racine).

Hyduke scored her second goal of the night when she took a long corner kick from Jessica Goodrich (Sr, Munster, Ind) on the opposite side of the box, settled the ball, turned and punched it into the back of the net. Hyduke finished with night with 10 total shots, seven on frame.

The Blue Devil defense went unscathed. Goalkeeper Robbie Shelby (Jr, La Crosse) faced only three shots on net, none in the second half. Concordia was held to only eight total shots.

The Blue Devils will be at Gustavus Adolphus, Monday, Sept. 2 at noon.

NOTE: Anna Hirssig, a defensive midfielder for the Falcons, is the younger sister of former Blue Devil basketball All-American Julia Hirssig. The younger Hirrsig played the entire game.
