Green Knights put an end to Blue Devil season in NCHA quarterfinals

DE PERE (February 16, 2013) - UW-Stout bid farewell to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) with a 3-2 loss to St. Norbert College in the quarterfinals of the Peters Cup Saturday at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (21-5-1) drew first blood with a goal by Reid Campbell at 14:02 of the first period.

Stout (10-15-2) tied the game in the second period when Mike Hartviksen (Sr, Thunder Bay, Ont) scored on the power play at 4:23 of the second period, with assists by Jordan Tredinnick (So, Onalaska).

St. Norbert took the lead back for good four minutes later on a Brett Bower goal. Cody Keefer gave the Knights a two goal lead at 14:43 of the second period.

The Blue Devils gave themselves a chance when Charles Lachance scored at 17:55 of the third period, with assists by Sam Carr (Sr, Roseau, Minn) and Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) scored.

Stout pulled goalie Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) in favor of an extra attacker in the final 1-minute, 22-seconds, but could not pierce the net.

The Blue Devil defense held St. Norbert to only 21 shots on goal, with Hopper stopping 18. Stout put 27 pucks on net, with David Jacobson stopping 25.

The game was Stout's final game as a member of the NCHA. The league will dissolve after the completion of the Peters Cup in two weeks. Stout will remain as a member of the WIAC.
