MENOMONIE (October 5, 2013) - Both teams played about two-and-a-half good sets. Good thing for UW-Stout one of the best sections of the match was the final nine points of game five and the Blue Devils defeated UW-Oshkosh, 3-2, Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (13-7, 1-3 WIAC), trailing 8-5 in the fifth set, outscored Oshkosh (12-6, 3-2 WIAC) 9-1 as
Morgan Denny (Jr, Luck) and
Laura Reiter (So, Lino Lake, Minn) provided much of the power to propel Stout to the win. Reiter knocked down three kills and combined on a block with
Emily Crew (Jr, Maplewood, Minn)Â and Denny had a solo block, a kill and a perfectly placed service ace to lead the charge.
Stout won the first two sets, 25-20, 25-16 and seemingly had the third set in hand in what looked to be a short day. But the Titans came back from a big deficit to the set at 22 apiece and took the set, 25-22. The Titans had little trouble in the fourth set, taking it 25-19. The Titans had the three point lead in the fifth set before Stout roared back for a 15-9 win.
Reiter finished the day with 18 kills and three block assists.
Molly Brion (So, Cameron) added 15 kills and Crew had 10 kills, one solo block and seven block assists.
Jordyn Bratel led the Titans with 12 kills and Jessica Fischer had 10 kills. Nerissa Vogt recorded two solo blocks and four block assists, as did Mikala Sebastion, who came off the bench.
Stout is off until they compete at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational, Oct. 11-12.
