Volleyball team closes out season by splitting matches at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. (October 29, 2013) - UW-Stout closed out the 2013 season by splitting a pair of matches at Hamline University Tuesday. Stout defeated North Central University, 3-0, then lost to the host Pipers, 3-0.

The Blue Devils (15-15) were able to clear their bench against North Central (5-25), winning the match 25-8, 25-16, 25-6.  Playing limited minutes, the Blue Devil combined to hold a block party, tallying two solo blocks and pairing up for 14 assisted blocks.

Playing only one set, Rachel Tschumperlin (So, Fairmont, Minn) had four assisted blocks and Emily Crew (Jr, Maplewood, Minn) had four assisted blocks in two sets. Katie Hackl (Fr, Suamico) had three assisted blocks in two sets and Miranda Haug (Fr, Forest Lake, Minn) had a solo block and two assisted blocks.

Laura Reiter (So, Lino Lake, Minn) led the way on the attack with 10 kills. Jessica Johnson (Fr, Hawick, Minn) took over as setter, clearing the way with a collegiate-best 20 assists. Johnson added three service aces. Stout won the match in less than an hour.

It was a different story against the host Pipers (18-12), who took the match 25-13, 25-13, 25-15. Reiter had six kills for Stout. Morgan Denny (Jr, Luck) and Olivia Jung (Fr, Andover, Minn) each had five kills. The Pipers' Katie Ayers led all players with 11 kills.
