Soccer Preview: Blue Devils to host UW-Whitewater Saturday


THIS WEEK'S GAMES: After coming off their most productive offensive showing of the season, the Blue Devils (4-7-1, 2-1-0 WIAC) will host a pair of conference opponents this week before taking an 11 day break from competition. Stout will host UW-Eau Claire (4-3-3, 1-1-1 WIAC), Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and UW-Whitewater (9-0-2, 4-0-0 WIAC), Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. The Warhawks are at Illinois Wesleyan, Oct. 9 in a non-conference tilt.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT:  Stout won their second consecutive WIAC contest on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they traveled to UW-Superior.  The Blue Devils battled through poor weather conditions to win 7-1.  Seven different players scored for Stout.  Whitney Solomon (Sr, Duluth, Minn), Alix Hyduke (Sr, Duluth, Minn) and Jenna Kizlik (So, Hammond) each scored unassisted within the first 22 minutes of the game.  Stout scored four unanswered goals in the second half.  Lauren Kizlik (Fr, Hammond), Kelly Conn (Fr, Menasha), Sarina Umlauf (Fr, Lake Villa, Ill) and Addy Maher (So, Racine) put their names into the scorebook.  | Story and Stats 

A LOOK AT STOUT:  UW-Stout's current record is 4-7-1.  The Blue Devils are currently in third place in the conference after their first three WIAC contest.  Alix Hyduke leads the team in goals, having scored six on the season.  She also leads the team with 14 points.  Kelly Conn is currently second on the team in goals and points with three and eight respectively.  Lauren Kizlik has scored two goals while Kelsie Allen (Sr, Appleton), Paige Meyer (So Beldenville), Emily Ferger (Sr, Wauwatosa), Sarina Umlauf, Addy Maher, Whitney Solomon, Jenna Kizlik and Camille Fawcett (Fr, Byron, MN) have each scored one goal on the season.  The Blue Devils have spread their scoring out fairly equally between halves as they have scored eight goals in the first and ten goals in the second half of games so far on the season.  They have also added one overtime goal.  Blue Devil goalies have saved 24 more shots (91-67), than their opponents on the season.  Alex Hyduke is currently ranked first in the WIAC with six goals during the regular season.  Her 14 points also lead all WIAC players.  Robbie Shelby's .793 save percentage is good for sixth overall in the WIAC.  | 2013 Stats

AWARDS: Alix Hyduke was named the UW-Stout athlete of the week, Sept. 6, after scoring five goals over her first three games, a feat that had been accomplished only once in the annals of UW-Stout soccer.

A LOOK AT UW-EAU CLAIRE:  The Bluegolds record stands at 4-3-3.  They have a conference record of 1-1-1.  The Bluegolds have outshot opponents 152-102 for the season.  They have also put 16 more shots on goal 71-55.  Caroline Henderson leads Eau Claire with five goals and ten points.  Tara Dennehy is second on the team with six points, thanks to her two goals and two assists.  The Bluegolds are coming off of their first conference win of the season over UW-Stevens Point.  | 2013 Stats

THE LAST TIME STOUT AND EAU CLAIRE MET:  The Blue Devils and Bluegolds met last season.  On Sept. 12, 2012 Eau Claire defeated Stout by a score of 2-0 in Eau Claire.  | Story and Stats

A LOOK AT UW-WHITEWATER:  The Warhawks, who were picked as the favorite to win the 2013 WIAC championship, currently sit in first place in the standings.  Whitewater holds a  9-0-2 overal record as well as a 4-0 conference record.  The Warhawks have allowed the least amount of goals of all conference members this season.  They are either first or second in the conference in nearly every statistical category.  Whitewater is outscoring opponents 14-3 in the second half of games.  Brianna Reid leads the team with five goals and 13 points.

THE LAST TIME STOUT AND WHITEWATER MET:  The Blue Devils and Warhawks met last season.  On Sept. 28, 2012 Whitewater defeated Stout by a score of 3-0 in Whitewater.  | Story and Stats

UW-STOUT COACH RYAN RAUFUS: Coach Ryan Raufus (20-22-4) is in his third year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Raufus played his college ball at Springfield College in Massachusetts and came to Stout after coaching at La Crosse Logan High School and La Crescent, Minn., High School.

QUICK HITS:  Senior Alix Hyduke (Duluth, Minn.) currently leads the 2013 team with five goals scored. In scoring her first five goals over the first three games of the season, Hyduke matched Alyssa Halverson as the only Blue Devil to accomplish that feat. Halverson scored her first five goals over three games in 1999 and went on to score 14 goals on the season...Kelly Conn scored her first collegiate goal in the Blue Devils' season opener against Concordia University....sophomore Jenna Kizlik (Hammond) was named the WIAC offensive player of the week Sept. 5, 2012 after scoring the game-winning goal in the season opener against St. Olaf...This year's captains for the Blue Devils are Alix HydukeEmily Ferger (Wauwatosa) and Whitney Solomon (Duluth, Minn.)...Camille Fawcett scored her first career goal against UW-La Crosse.

DOWN THE ROAD: Stout is off until Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to UW-River Falls for a 3 p.m. game. The Blue Devils will close out the home portion of their schedule Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host UW-Stevens Point.
