Green Knights take early lead to hand Blue Devils 4-1 loss

DE PERE (January 19, 2013) - St. Norbert College jumped out with early goals in the first and second periods and went on to defeat UW-Stout, 4-1, Saturday at Cornerstone Center.

The Blue Devils (9-8-2, 4-8-0 NCHA) handed the top-ranked Green Knights (15-3-1, 9-2-1 NCHA) the night before, but this time Stout could never get a lead. St. Norbert opened the game with a power play goal by Erik Cooper two minutes into the contest. St. Norbert doubled the score early in the second period when Derek Donohue scored three minutes into the period.

The Blue Devils did cut the lead in half when Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) scored at 15:39 of the second period, with assists by Tate Rusk (Fr, Brainerd, Minn) and Charles Lachance (Sr, Quebec City, Quebec).

But St. Norbert returned the game to a two-goal contest less than two minutes later when Sam Higgins scored at 17:08 of the period. The Green Knights got an empty net goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game for the 4-1 win.

Stout's Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) recorded 34 goals. Mike Martin got the win for the Knights, working the first 35 minutes of the game for eight saves. Stout did come at David Jacobson, who entered in goal for the Green Knights in the second period. Jacobson allowed the single goal and had to record 20 saves.

St. Norbert was 1-for-6 on the power play, while Stout was 0-for-3.

Stout will be at St. Scholastica, Friday, Jan. 25 and will host UW-Superior, Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
