Volleyball team blows out Crown, takes Hamline to five sets

ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 7, 2012) - UW-Stout dismantled Crown College, then took undefeated Hamline University to five sets before dropping the match at the Hamline University Tournament Friday.

The Blue Devils (2-5) took care of the Storm, 25-6, 25-17, 25-10, before coming up short, 25-16, 15-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-5, to the Pipers.

Against Crown, the Blue Devils had a scorching hitting percentage of .525 as four players had hitting percentages above .500. Kate Mikutowski (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) put down 12 kills. Morgan Denny (So, Luck) had nine kills and three block solos.

In the five set loss to Hamline (6-0), Emily Crew (So, Maplewood, Minn) led the way with 13 kills. Denny added 10 kills and two solo blocks. Megan Shanahan (Sr, Norwood-Young America, Minn) had three service aces in each match.

Stout will meet Presentation College and Buena Vista University on the final day of the tournament.
