Green Knights use hat trick to down Stout soccer team

Box Score St. Norbert 3, UW-Stout 2

DE PERE (September 23, 2012) - UW-Stout scored first, but then could not stop one of the leading scorers in NCAA Division III as the Blue Devils fell 3-2 to St. Norbert College Sunday.

Kayla Seivert (Jr, Farmington, Minn) scored her first goal of the season, scoring in the 13th minute of the game, getting an assist from Alix Hyduke (Jr, Duluth, Minn).

But then the Green Knights' (7-1-1)  found their money player in Katie Vanden Avond who scored her 14th, 15th and 16th goal of the season in just under 14 minutes of play to give St. Norbert a 3-1 lead in the first half. Vanden Avond opened her scoring blitz in the 18th minute, added her second in the 25th minute and again in the 31st minute. She was assisted by a different player on each score.

The Blue Devils (3-4-2) pulled to within the final score when Hyduke scored her fifth goal of the season, on an assist by Jenna Kizlik (Fr, Hammond), in the 76th minute.

Overall, St. Norbert outshot Stout, 19-11, and on-net, 10-6.

Robbie Shelby (So, La Crosse) took the loss, stopping six shots, but allowing the three first half goals before giving way to Paige Meyer (Fr, Beldenville) for the second half. Meyer had one save.

Stout resumes play Friday, Sept. 29, when they travel to UW-Whitewater for a 6 p.m. contest.
