MENOMONIE (September 22, 2012) - Kate Mikutowski (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) was going to make sure UW-Stout did not let a potential weekend sweep of UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse slip away.

Less than 24 hours after the Blue Devils had defeated UW-Platteville, a team they hadn't beaten since the 2004 season, Stout rolled over UW-La Crosse, a team they hadn't beaten since 2005, by a convincing 25-18, 25-22, 25-16.

Mikutowski, a senior co-captain, led Stout's charge with 18 kills, seven in each of the final two sets. Mikutowski got plenty of help from her younger teammates.

Molly Brion (Fr, Cameron), who against Platteville notched 22 kills, drove home nine kills. Morgan Denny (So, Luck) was solid on defense, just like the night before, as she teamed up for six block assists and added six kills.

As a team, Stout (8-8, 2-1 WIAC) played well, hitting .340 with only five attack errors. And at the net defensively, Stout dominated. The Blue Devils tallied two solo blocks, but also added 16 block assists.

The Eagles, in contrast, were unable to stop Stout, recording only four block assists.

In set one, Gabby Mastronardo (Fr, Germantown) and Karley Wiensch (So, Chippewa Falls) had back-to-back pancake digs on the same point to save play and tie the score at 7-7. Emily Crew (So, Maplewood, Minn) and Brion combined to put together blocks on back-to-back plays to give Stout a 12-8 lead. Nicole Bradford (So, Ridgeland) saved set point, then got set point when she sent a dig over for a score.

In game two, the Eagles (8-8, 0-2 WIAC) came back from a 16-10 deficit to tie at 16 all, but Stout moved out to the tenuous lead until Denny recorded set point off a solo block.

In game three, Stout jumped out to a 9-1, only to see La Crosse pull to within 16-14 before the Blue Devils put them away.

Stout will return to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to face Loras College and the University of Dubuque.
