Bethel comes back twice to forge tie with Blue Devils

ST. PAUL, Minn (September 19, 2012) - UW-Stout scored the first goal of the game, but Bethel University matched each of the Blue Devils' goals as the Royals pulled out a 2-2 tie Wednesday.

The Blue Devils' Alix Hyduke (Jr, Duluth, Minn) opened the scoring in the 24th minute of the game, getting an assist from Emily Stanke (Sr, Elk Grove Village, Ill), and the teams played scoreless the rest of the first half.

The Royals (2-4-2) evened the score in the 59th minute when Jessica Huseby scored unassisted. Stout (2-3-2) took the lead back in the 76th minute when defender Emily Ferger (Jr, Wauwatosa) scored her first goal of the season, with an assist by Jessica Goodrich (Jr, Munster, Ind). Four minutes later, Suzette Anderson scored for Bethel, with an assist from Huseby, and the score remained knotted throughout regulation and throw the overtime periods.

Bethel put a pair of shots on net in the first overtime period and another in the second , but they were all stopped by Paige Meyer (Fr, Beldenville), who finished the night with nine saves. Stout put one shot on goal in the second overtime period. Kathryn McGaffey finished the night with four saves for Bethel.

The Blue Devils return home and to conference play when they host UW-Superior, Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. either at Nelson Field on the Stout campus or at the River Heights Elementary School field.
