EAU CLAIRE (September 12, 2012) - UW-Eau Claire scored a goal in each half and took a 2-0 conference opening win over UW-Stout Wednesday at Bollinger Field.
The Blugolds (1-3-1, 1-0-0 WIAC) got a goal from Tara Denehy in the 12th minute, then added another goal by Gina Williams in the 58th minute.
With rain falling throughout the game, the majority of the shots on net came in the first half. The Blugolds held a 6-2 advantage in shots on frame in the first half and their only second half shot scored. Overall, the Blugolds outshot the Blue Devils (2-3-0, 0-1-0 WIAC), 17-8.
The attacks were relatively even, with Stout tallying six corner kicks to Eau Claire's four. Stout's
Robbie Shelby (So, La Crosse) finished with six saves, while the Blugolds' Nina Behrenbrinker had two saves.
Stout will stay in league play when they host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, Sept. 15.
