Box Score UW-Stevens Point 3, UW-Stout 1
STEVENS POINT (October 6, 2012) - After dropping the first set, UW-Stout stormed back to take set No. 2, but the Blue Devils could not hold of UW-Stevens Point and fell to the Pointers, 3-1, Saturday.
The Pointers (16-4, 5-1 WIAC) captured the first set, 25-12, but Stout (10-9, 2-2 WIAC) came back strong to knot the match with a 25-21 win. Stevens Point bounced back in the final two sets, 25-12, 25-20.
Molly Brion (Fr, Cameron) led Stout with 12 kills, while
Kate Mikutowski (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) added nine for the Blue Devils. Blocks were at a premium today for Stout, who put two solo blocks - both by Brion - and
Morgan Denny (So, Luck) and Mikutowski combined for a block assist each.
The Pointers got 12 kills from Christina Brinkman. Alexis Hartman and Alison Davis each had four block assists and Morgan Bartkowiak had three. The Pointers gave Stout fits on their serves, dropping in 10 service aces, while Stout recorded four.
The Blue Devils will wrap up their home schedule over the next 11 days. Stout will host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Oct. 10, then will host the UW-Stout Tournament, Oct. 12-13. Their final home match will be Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they host UW-Superior.
