MENOMONIE (October 3, 2012) - Freshman goalkeeper Paige Meyer (Beldenville) made nine saves and freshman Jamie Whitlinger (Duluth, Minn) scored the game-winning goal as UW-Stout defeated UW-River Falls, 2-1, Wednesday at Nelson Field.

Meyer and the Blue Devil (4-5-2, 2-2-1 WIAC) defense came up big in the final minutes of the game. As Stout was clinging to a 2-1 lead, Meyer recorded three saves in the last 10 minutes of the game, including a punch save with only a couple minutes left.

Stout took the just before halftime when the Blue Devils' leading scorer, Alix Hyduke (Jr, Duluth, Minn), took a big shot in traffic after getting the pass from Jenna Kizlik (Fr, River Falls), scoring her sixth goal of the season in the 43rd minute.

The Falcons (5-5-1, 2-1-1 WIAC) knotted the score in the 64th minute when Cassie Stang took the corner kick from Alyssa Manor and headed the ball into the net.

But the Blue Devils didn't waste anytime taking the lead back. Whitlinger took a pass from Hyduke, and worked herself free around the right side of the field and fired the goal in from about 20 yards out in the 67th minute for her first collegiate goal.

Meyer recorded her second win of the season. The Falcons' Rebecca Kraimer recorded three saves.

Stout will be at Macalester College, Saturday, Oct. 6, then return home Wednesday, Oct. 10 for a non-conference contest with Gustavus Adolphus.
