MENOMONIE (October 20, 2012) - UW-Platteville stymied every UW-Stout opportunity and scored on their first shot of the day to defeat the Blue Devils, 1-0, Saturday at Nelson Field.

The Blue Devils (5-9-2, 2-4-1 WIAC) dominated the stat sheet in terms of total shots as Stout outshot Platteville 19-5 on the day. The Blue Devils put seven shots on frame, compared to two for Platteville (4-10-0, 1-5-0 WIAC).

But it was Platteville that made of the most of their opportunities. Ashley Chernich connected in the 57th minute, sending the ball high in the net over a leaping Robbie Shelby (So, La Crosse). The shot was Platteville's first shot of the afternoon and Chernich's first goal of the season.

The Pioneer defense continually got in front of Stout shots, simply messed up Stout shot opportunities or stole passes. Cassie Blatz played her first game in the goal and the converted defenseman pushed aside seven shots.

Much of the game was played on the Stout half of the field. Stout enjoyed an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks and were called offside three times.

The win was the first for Platteville over Stout since the 1995 season, Stout's first season as a varsity program. The teams tied in 2010.

The Blue Devils will wrap up their home portion of the schedule when they host Finlandia University, Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. and will close out the regular season, Saturday, Oct. 27 at UW-Oshkosh.
