MENOMONIE (October 17, 2012) - Kate Mikutowski (Sr, Stillwater,  Minn) left a lasting impression in her final home match. Mikutowski needed 12 kills to reach 1000 for her career, but she got 24 kills and led UW-Stout to a 3-1 win over UW-Superior at Johnson Fieldhouse Wednesday.

On Senior Night, Mikutowski had 11 kills after the first two sets, which the two teams split, Stout taking the first set, 25-23, but Superior coming back to take the second 25-18.

Mikutowski and the Blue Devils appeared to struggle early in the third set, but Mikutowski blasted down her first kill of the set and the 1000th of her career to tie the set at 4-4. Blue Devil coach Jill Jolliff shouted to MIkutowski "It's done" and the Blue Devils, following a Superior timeout, jumped out to a 12-6 lead and went on to win the set easily, 25-13.

The fourth set was not so easy for Stout. The Blue Devils held leads throughout the set, only to see Superior crawl back into striking range. Stout (14-11, 3-3 WIAC) had an 18-14 lead, but the Yellowjackets tightened it to 21-19 before Stout went on to gain the match-clinching 25-20 win.

Mikutowski also had a solid night defensively, notching 20 digs to bring her career total to 989. She also had one solo block and two block assists. Mikutowski had 75 total attacks, and finished with a hitting percentage of .200. The 24 kills was one shy of Mikutowski's career high, a mark she set Saturday in a five-set match.

Fellow senior team captain Megan Shanahan (Sr, Norwood-Young America, Minn) finished the night with 18 digs.

Morgan Denny (So, Luck) finished with 14 kills and Laura Reiter (So, Lino Lakes, Minn) had 13 kills. Karley Wiensch (So, Chippewa Falls) had 53 assists.

For the Yellowjackets (17-14, 0-6 WIAC), Kitty Tynen had 11 kills.

Stout returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Northland College, then completes the regular season, Friday, Oct. 26 at UW-Oshkosh and Saturday, Oct. 27 at UW-Whitewater.
