MENOMONIE (October 13, 2012) - UW-Stout wrapped up their own tournament with a pair of wins Saturday, but they had to go more than the distance to win each one.
The Blue Devils (13-11) took a 3-1 win over St. Catherine in the day's opener. The match featured perhaps the longest set in Stout volleyball history as the Blue Devils defeated the Wildcats in the third set, 36-34. Stout took the match 25-13, 24-26, 36-34, 30-28.
Stout finished out the tournament with 3-2 win over St. Mary's, winning 19-25, 29-27, 21-25, 27-25, 15-10.
With the long matches come big numbers on the stat sheet. In the opener,
Morgan Denny (So, Luck) put down 21 kills, while
Kate Mikutowski (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) added 18 kills.#
Karley Wiensch# (So, Chippewa Falls) finished with 56 assists and 24 digs.
Megan Shanahan (Sr, Norwood-Young America, Minn) had 29 digs.
In the five set win over St. Mary's, Mikutowski had a career-high 25 kills. Denny added 11. Wiensch had 59 assists. Shanahan had 32 digs.
Stout will host UW-Superior, Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
