MENOMONIE (January 20, 2012) - UW-Stout struck early, but St. Norbert struck often as the Green Knights went on to a 4-1 NCHA win Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Blue Devils (7-10-1, 3-7-1 NCHA) got onto the scoreboard early in the game when
Micky Knox (Fr, Warroad, Minn) scored at the 4:25 mark, with assists by
Luke Dillon (Fr, Thief River Falls, Minn) and
Joe Beaudette (Jr, Blaine, Minn).
But it was all St. Norbert (10-4-4, 7-3-1 NCHA) after that as the Green Knights rolled off four unanswered goals, two on power plays.
Johan Ryd scored twice in the second period, the first time at even strength at 12:15, then again five minutes later on the power play. Ryd got assists from Kyle Stroh on both goals and by Reid Campbell on the first goal and Zach McDonald on the second.
St. Norbert tacked a pair of goals on in the third period. Campbell scored unassisted at even strength at 9:33. Sam Higgins, with an assist by Cullen Bradshaw, put up the final goal of the game just as Stout came off a 5-on-3 and went into the one-down power play. Higgins scored with less than three minutes remaining in the contest.
Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY) stopped 27 shots for Stout, while David Jacobson turned away 14 shots for St. Norbert.
The teams will meet again Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., as part of Hockey Day Minnesota.
