MENOMONIE (September 7, 2011) - The UW-Stout defense made Emily Stanke's (Jr, Elk Grove Village, Ill) early goal stand up and the Blue Devils went on to a 1-0 home opening win over Viterbo University Wednesday.

Stanke scored at 3:04 into the game, taking a long cross from Kayla Seivert (So, Farmington, Minn) in the box.

The Blue Devils had an opportunity in the second half to double score when a corner kick by Grace Salwasser (Sr, Cottage Grove, Minn) was headed by Courtney Tideman (Sr, Sartell, Minn), but the shot was one of nine saves by Viterbo goalie Stephanie Stacey.

Freshman Robbie Shelby (La Crosse), this week's WIAC defensive player of the week, recorded her second consecutive shutout of the short season by making four saves as Stout ran their record to 2-0-0.

The teams shot evenly, with Viterbo (2-3-0) taking 12 shots to Stout's 13, but the Blue Devils put 10 shots on frame, while Viterbo was held to four.

Stout will host North Park University, Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m., then will be at UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Sept. 14.
