Blue Devils take 1st, but drop final 3 to Auggies

MENOMONIE (September 30, 2011) - UW-Stout won the first set, but  then couldn't hold off Augsburg College as the Auggies took a 3-1 decision Friday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Stout (3-12) won the first set, 25-23, but the Auggies (9-5) won the next two by the same scores. The Auggies then pounded down 22 kills in the final game for a 25-20 win.

In the first set, Stout held as much as a six point lead, but did hold off an Augsburg rally. In the second set, Stout several times held a four point lead, but the scratched their way back for the win.

In the third set, it was the Blue Devils' turn to scratch their way back. Augsburg jumped out to an 8-2 lead, and held the lead until Stout tied the game at 23 all. Augsburg to the final two points for the win.

In final set, Stout jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but Augsburg came back and the teams tied at 11, 12, and 13. Stout got as close as 20-18, but the Auggies rolled of five of the final seven points for the match.

Augsburg's Micha Sater and Colleen Ourada each had 16 kills to lead all scorers. Stout's Kate Mikutowski (Jr, Stillwater, Minn) finished the night with 13 kills. Tori Sandstrom (Jr, Cary, Ill) finished with nine kills.

Stout will be at Carleton College Saturday, Oct. 1, and will also face Buena Vista University.
