MENOMONIE (September 25, 2011) - UW-Stout scored three first half goals, ran their win streak to three games and recorded their fourth shutout of the season with a 3-0 non-conference win over St. Norbert College Sunday at Nelson Field.
Alix Hyduke (So, Duluth, Minn) and
Taylor Kizlik (Fr, Hammond) each scored their first goals of the season for the Blue Devils (6-1-0).
Hyduke got things started when she picked up the rebound after
Grace Salwasser (Sr, Cottage Grove, Minn) bounced a shot off the Green Knights' Sarah Platzer in the 12th minute of the contest.
Kizlik scored her first collegiate goal 10 minutes later when she took a big kick from outside the box to run the score to 2-0.
Only three minutes later,
Courtney Tideman (Sr, Sartell, Minn) scored her team-high fifth goal from just inside the box for what would prove to be the final score.
Goalie
Robbie Shelby (Fr, La Crosse) came up big in the second half. After fielding only one first half save, Shelby recorded four second half saves to finish with five. St. Norberts' (4-3-1) Platzer finished the contest with seven saves, five of those coming in the first half.
Stout's 6-1-0 start is the best start for the Blue Devils after seven games since the 2004 team started off 6-0-1. That team finished the season with a best-ever 15-3-2 overall record.
Stout is off until Tuesday, Oct. 4 when they travel to Hamline University, then will host UW-Stevens Point, Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
