RIVER FALLS (September 17, 2011) - Morgan Denny (Fr, Luck), Kate Mikutowski (Jr, Stillwater, Minn) and Sara Kjos (Sr, Hamburg, Minn) provided the punch and Karley Wiensch (Fr, Cadott) provided the passes as UW-Stout defeated UW-River Falls, 3-1, in the Falcons' own tournament Saturday.

Denny, Mikutowski and Kjos accounted for 42 kills for the Blue Devils, with Mikutowski nailing 16, Kjos 14 and Denny 12. Meanwhile, Wiensch had her best setting match as a Blue Devil, getting in rhythm with her hitters to the tune of a collegiate-best 52 assists as Stout defeated the Falcons, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16.

And the leading trio of hitters were not the only Blue Devils getting into the act. Tori Sandstrom (Jr, Cary, Ill) had nine kills, while Emily Crew (Fr, Maplewood, Minn) had eight kills.

Defensively, the Blue Devils had a solid match, with Kjos recording a solo block and six assisted blocks, while Denny had three solo and three assisted blocks. Mikutowski and Sandstrom each had three assisted blocks. Taylor Fabian (Jr, Lake Elmo, MInn) had 23 digs, while Mikutowski finished with 22.

Mikutowski and Kjos were named to the all-tournament team.

The morning match didn't go quite so well as the Blue Devils opened with a 3-0, 25-17, 25-17, 25-22, loss to Hamline University.

Mikutowski was the only Stout player to break double digits in kills, getting 11.

Stout will host their first home match of the season, Wedneday, Sept. 21 when they open the WIAC season with UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
