MENOMONIE (February 19, 2011) - UW-Stout closed out the season with a 76-63 win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
But it was appropriate on Senior Day that two long time players were able to put an exclamation point on the win.
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) tipped an errant Eau Claire shot to
Jerrod Buchholtz (Sr, Durand) and Buchholtz went coast-to-coast to put down the slam dunk.
But it was a team effort by the Blue Devils (10-15, 4-12) throughout the entire game with four players scoring in double figures.
Guard
Erik Olson (So, Buffalo, Minn) led all scorers with 21 points and had seven assists. Buchholtz notched his second consecutive double-double, putting in 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Steve Pax (Fr, Elmwood) and
Alex Oman (Fr, Lake Elmo, Minn) each added 11 for the Blue Devils, who trailed 26-25 at halftime.
Buchholtz gave Stout a 34-33 lead four minutes into the second half and Stout never trailed throughout the rest of the game. The Blue Devils took a double-digit lead with three minutes left in the game and held the score there throughout the remainder.
Eau Claire (9-16, 3-13) was led by Jordan Peterson with 18 points and Marcus Ruh with 15 points.
Neither team qualfied to the WIAC tournament, marking the end of the season for both squads.
