MENOMONIE (February 15, 2011) - UW-Stout ended their five-game losing streak, Tuesday night, as they ran Crown College out of the gym by scoring their season high point total, a 109-67 non-conference victory at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Stout (9-15) made 16 three-point buckets and shot over 50 percent from the field, while holding Crown (4-19) to under 32 percent. Stout's 42-point margin was their second largest of the season, falling short to their 45-point win over Crown earlier this season. The 109 points was the most by a Stout team since a 111-57 win at North Central College on Nov. 22, 1994.
Stout set the tone early as they grabbed the first lead, and never trailed in the game. Stout went on an early 17-0 run to take a 29-10 lead midway through the first half.
Jerrod Buchholtz (Sr, Durand) led the charge with five points on the run.
Erik Olson (So, Buffalo, Minn.) and
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn.) each added a three pointer as well.
Four minutes later, the Blue Devils ripped off a 16-0 run to take a 30-point lead with five and a half minutes to play in the first half. This rally featured a slam dunk by
Debonair Townsend (So, Milwaukee), who also grabbed two of his four rebounds during the run.
Stout's largest lead of the game came at the 10-minute mark in the second half when
Jake Polk (Fr, Montello) hit back-to-back three pointers to stretch the margin to 46 points.
Hostetter led Stout with 18 points, all of which were three-point buckets, while Olson and
Steve Pax (Fr, Elmwood) each added 17. Hostetter and Olson both dished out six assists. Crown's RJ Walker scored a game-high 21 points. Buchholtz recorded the game's only double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds to compliment 10 points.
Stout will close out their season this Saturday, Feb. 19 when they host UW-Eau Claire in a men's and women's doubleheader at Johnson Fieldhouse.
