MENOMONIE (November 5, 2011) - St. John's University didn't have near as many shots on net as UW-Stout, but the Johnnies' accuracy was far better as St. John's went out of the Dunn County Ice Arena with a 7-3 win Saturday.
The Blue Devils (4-2-0) put 38 shots on net compared to 22 for St. Johns (1-1-1).
Stout did lead 2-1 in the first period after
Luke Dillon (Fr, Thief River Falls, Minn) and
Charles Lachance (Jr, Quebec City, Quebec) sandwiched Blue Devil goal around the Johnnies' Jason Johnson's goal.
But the Johnnies took a 3-2 lead when Phil Johnson and Wally Cossette scored to close out the period.
St. John's added a shorthanded goal by Joe Harren in the second period to take a 4-2 lead, then jumped ahead 5-2 on a power play goal by Conor Rooney seven minutes into the third period.
Stout cut into the lead when Lachance scored his second goal of the night, on the power play at the midway mark. It would be all Johnnies after that as Josh Gross scored onthe power play with five minutes remaining and Jascha Pettit sealed the deal with a goal in the final minute of play.
Nick Hopper (Jr, Culver City, Calif) started for Stout and absorbed the loss playing the first period with four saves.
Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY) finished out the game and made 11 saves. The Johnnies' Tony Civello recorded 35 saves on the night.
