Blue Devils can't overcome early drought

WINONA, Minn (November 29, 2011) - UW-Stout could not dig themselves out of an early deficit and fell, 82-54, to NCAA Division II Winona State University Tuesday at McCown Gymnasium.

Traditionally one of the top programs in Division II, the Warriors started the game off on a 20-0 advantage and Stout would not even get a shot off until five minutes into the game and got their first score of the game at the 13 minute mark when Carter Ciolkosz (Fr, Maplewood, Minn) laid the ball in.

Stout (3-3) would get only as close as 16 points throughout the rest of the game as Stout finished the game hitting 37.5 percent (21-56) of their field goals. The Warriors (5-1) started the game hot, making their first five shot attempts, shooting 55.2 percent (16-29) in the first half and 47.5 percent (28-59) for the game.

Ciolkosz led Stout with 17 points and Jay Higgins (So, Maple Grove, Minn) finished with 10 points.

The Warriors got 21 points from Grant Johnson, 13 points from CJ Erickson, 12 points from Xavier Humphrey and 11 points from Kellen Taylor.

The Blue Devils hurt their own cause by turning the ball over 26 times.

Stout returns to action Saturday, Dec. 3, when they travel to UW-Whitewater to open the WIAC schedule.
