MENOMONIE (October 7, 2011) - UW-Stout dropped a close 3-1 decision to UW-Stevens Point Friday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Pointers (11-6, 4-1) edged past Stout (3-15, 0-4), 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, in a match that was close throughout.
After coming back to take the third set, Stout continued to fight on through the fourth set, coming back from as much as six points twice to take a lead, only to see the Pointers take the win and the match.
In the third set win, after Stout had fallen behind,
Morgan Denny (Fr, Luck) served a pair of service aces to key a Blue Devil run that would put Stout up. The Blue Devils held off the Pointers for the five point win.
Stevens Point's Christina Brinkman led all scorers with 14 kills, while teammate Sarah Wildish contributed 12.
Kate Mikutowski (Jr, Stillwater, Minn) led Stout with 11 kills. Denny finished with eight, as did
Emily Crew (Fr, Maplewood, Minn).
Stout will be at UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Oct. 12, then will host the UW-Stout Tournament, Oct. 14-15.
