MENOMONIE (October 23, 2011) - All good things have to eventually come to an end and that is what happened to UW-Stout Sunday as their unbeaten streak was halted at nine games with a 2-0 home loss to St. Thomas at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils' (11-2-1) last loss came on Sept. 14 in River Falls, and they had posted a 3-3 tie with Hamline University, Oct. 4. Stout also came into the game with four consecutive shuouts. This also was Stout's first home loss of the season.
The Tommies (8-5-2), coming off a 1-0 conference loss the day before at Gustavus Adolphus, broke Stout's scoreless streak on a penalty shot by Anna Strehlow in the 56th minute after Stout was called for a hand ball in the box.
Goalkeeper
Robbie Shelby (Fr, La Crosse) moved to her left on the kick, but could not reach it. Shelby tallied 447 minutes of scoreless ball, dating back to an Oct. 6, 2-1, win over UW-Stevens Point.
The Tommies put up the final goal in the 83rd minute to put the game out of reach when Katie Carlson bent a corner kick that rebounded off Stout players.
Shelby handled two saves, while her counterpart, Callan Faulkner also made two saves.
Stout will host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., then will close out the regular season, Saturday, Oct. 29 at UW-La Crosse.
