Blue Devils continue to roll, blank St. Ben's, 3-0

UW-Stout 3, College of St. Benedict 0

ST. JOSEPH, Minn (October 16, 2011) - For the second time in 24 hours, UW-Stout recorded a 3-0 shutout on the pitch, blanking the College of St. Benedict. Sunday

As in a 3-0 conference win over UW-Platteville less than 24 hours earlier, the Blue Devils (8-1-1) scored twice in the first half, then added the clincher in the second.

But this time, the Blue Devils put two goals on the scoreboard in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Emily Stanke (Jr, Elk Grove Village, Ill) found Courtney Tideman (Sr, Sartell, Minn) in the middle of the field and Tideman scored in the ninth minute. Ten minutes later, freshman Taylor Kizlik (Hammond) beat a pair of defenders and planted the ball in the top right corner of the net.

The Blue Devils closed out the scoring in the 61st minute when Grace Salwasser's (Sr, Cottage Grove, Minn) shot rebounded back from the post and Jesse Lankford (So, Cedar Falls, Iowa) picked up the loose change and cashed in.

The Blazers (8-5-1) did put a ball in the net late, but an offside call waved off the goal.

Stout's Robbie Shelby (Fr, La Crosse) recorded three saves on the afternoon, while the Blazers' Claire O'Brien had five saves.

The win extended Stout's unbeaten streak to seven games and also snapped an eight game St. Benedict unbeaten streak.

Stout will be at Lawrence University, Wednesday, Oct. 19, then return home to face UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. and St. Thomas, Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
