Blue Devils toppled twice in own tourney

MENOMONIE (October 15, 2011) - Emily Crew (Fr, Maplewood, Minn) tallied 27 kills on the day as UW-Stout closed out play at their own tournament Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Crew, who was named to the all-tournament team, recorded 13 kills in a 3-2 loss to Luther College to open the day, then one-upped herself with 14 kills in a 3-1 loss to UW-Stevens Point to close out the day.

The Blue Devils lost 25-19, 26-24, 22-25, 23-25, 15-11 to Luther College and 25-14, 25-10, 20-25, 25-17 to the Pointers.

Against the Norse (16-10), the Blue Devils came back for a two-set deficit.  Tori Sandstrom (Jr, Cary, Ill) pouned out a match-high 20 kills, while Hope Weilage (Jr, Marshall, Minn) added 15. Karley Wiensch (Fr, Cadott) handed off 47 assists.

Luther's Sophia Brown had 19 kills, while Hannah Walker added 15 and Kesley Sorensen 13.

Against the Pointers (18-6) , the Blue Devils rebounded from two low scoring opening sets to take the third, but then couldn't get back far enough in the fourth.

The Pointers' Katie Rau led all players iwth 15 kills.

Stout will travel to UW-Superior, Wednesday, Oct. 19, then will be at Northwestern College, Friday, Oct. 21 when they will meet the host Eagles and UM-Morris.
