UW-River Falls 86, UW-Stout 71
RIVER FALLS (January 5, 2010) -
Jerrod Buchholtz (Sr, Durand) scored 34 points, 24 in the second half, but it wouldn't be enough as UW-Stout dropped an 86-71 decision at UW-River Falls, Wednesday.
With the Blue Devils (7-6, 2-3) trailing 42-33 at halftime, Buchholtz kept Stout within striking range throughout the last 20 minutes by connecting on seven second half 3-point baskets. For the game, Buchholtz hit 9-of-14 3-point baskets, tying the school record of nine 3-point baskets made by Jeff Vandeberghe in 2003.
Buchholtz did get help from
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn), who finished the night with 17 points as the pair accounted for 51 of Stout's total 71 points.
The 15th ranked and first placed Falcons (12-2, 5-0) countered with 24 points by Shane Manor, 17 by Jake Voeltz and 11 by both Jontae Koonkaew and Danny Johnson.
Buchholtz's 34 points is the highest point total by a Blue Devil since Vandeberghe scored 36 points against Elmhurst College, Dec. 13, 2003.
Stout will host UW-Platteville, Saturday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m.
