UW-Platteville 75, UW-Stout 73
PLATTEVILLE (February 13, 2010) - Trailing by eight points with less than three minutes left in the game, UW-Stout's rally came up just short as UW-Platteville scored in the final seconds for a 75-73 win Saturday at Bo Ryan Court.
Trailing 71-63 with 2:45 left,
Michael Fant (Sr, Weston) buried a three-pointer to pull Stout to within five points. Fant dropped another three-pointer with a minute left to pull Stout within two points, 73-71.
The Stout defense forced a turnover, and
Eric Hostetter (Jr, Stillwater, Minn) tied the score at 73-73 with 33 seconds on the clock.
The Pioneers' Nick Allen hit a runner in the lane with 4.6 remaining and a shot by Hostetter fell short at the buzzer to stop Stout's winning streak at four games.
Hostetter led all scorers with 21 points.
Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Sr, Anoka, Minn) had 15 points and
Grant Franzen (Sr, Waverly, Iowa).
Curt Hanson led the Pioneers (13-10, 7-7) with 20 points. Mike Shaw added 16, Eric Wall 15 and Rob Stallion 10. Allen finished with seven points.
Stout (13-10, 8-7) is currently in third place, and has clinched a WIAC tournament playoff bid, but could finish anywhere between the third and the sixth seed. Stout has the conference bye on Wednesday, Feb. 17, and will host UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. in the final regular season game.
UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater have the top two seeds between themselves have two games remaining. UW-La Crosse (7-7 WIAC), Platteville, UW-Eau Claire (6-8) and UW-Superior (6-8) all have legitimate chances at making the six-team conference tournament field. Stout has one game remaining, the other four teams have two games left. Eau Claire and Superior meet on Wednesday.
Stout will host Silver Lake College, Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
