MENOMONIE (December 18, 2010) -
Mahlon Thomas (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the way, but got a lot of help from the bench as UW-Stout blew past Viterbo University for a 96-77 win, Saturday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Thomas highlighted the game with two slam dunks, a career high 20 points, and 11 rebounds. Thomas shot 9-14 from the field, also adding four blocks before fouling out late in the game.
Both teams found it difficult to find points early. Stout (5-4) led 12-5 at the midway point of the first half. The scoring then got going, as Stout ripped off a 17-6 run and led the V-Hawks (1-10) 29-11 with six minutes to go in the first. Minutes later,
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn.) reeled off five straight points and Stout led by 23. They took a 24-point lead into the locker rooms.
With the game virtually secured in the second half, the Johnson Fieldhouse got to see some new faces in the game. Four bench players recorded at least 13 minutes on the night.
Alex Oman (Fr, Lake Elmo, Minn.) shot 5-for-8 for a career-high 12 points. Also scoring career highs were
Debonair Townsend (So, Milwaukee), who scored seven, and
Aaron Jenny (Fr, New London, Minn.) who got eight points off 4-for-4 shooting.
Over winter break, Stout will travel to De Pere to play in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament, hosted by St. Norbert College. The tourney will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 29 and Thursday, Dec. 30.
