UW-Stout 106, Crown College 61
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (November 20, 2010) - UW-Stout put up some offensive numbers that hasn't been seen for quite some time.
The Blue Devils defeated first time opponent Crown College, 106-61, Saturday. The 106 points is the most a UW-Stout team has scored since Nov. 23, 1998, when they defeated Martin Luther College, 106-56. Stout last year broke the century mark with a 102-72 win over Silver Lake College late in the season.
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) led the way in a 3-point assault. Hostetter finished with a game-high 19 points, scoring 17 points in the first half. He connected on 5-of-9 long-range bombs in the first half, then sat out most of the second half.
As a team, Stout (2-0) made 20-of-40 3-pointers, setting both school and WIAC records. The previous conference mark was 18 by UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 17, 2007 against Carroll University. The NCAA Division III record is 37 by Redlands against LaSierra on Dec. 13, 2003.
Mahlon Thomas (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) finished with 17 points for Stout.
Jake Polk (Fr, Montello) tallied 13 points and
Erik Olson (So, Buffalo, Minn) and
Steve Pax (Fr, Elmwood) each had 10 points. Stout was able to play all 20 players as they rolled up their second consecutive rout in as many games.
Crown (0-2) got 14 points from RJ Walker and 11 apiece from Truman Shetler and David Glover.
Stout is scheduled to play Crown College again this season Feb. 15, 2011, in Menomonie. Stout will be at NCAA Division II Bemidji State Tuesday, Nov. 23.
