MENOMONIE (October 13, 2010) - In a rough and tumble game where the first four goals were scored within the first 20 minutes of the game, the outcome was determined in double overtime as UW-River Falls defeated UW-Stout, 3-2, Wednesday at Nelson Field.
The Falcons (9-5-0, 4-2-0) played much of the final 60 minutes of the game in Stout's zone and scored the game winner when Cassie Stang launched a long free kick from near midfield and Carlin Buntin put the ball into the net in the 105th minute.
Stout (6-7-1, 0-4-1) opened the scoring when
Grace Salwasser (Jr, Cottage Grove, Minn) took a cross from
Katie Ness (Sr, River Falls) only two minutes into the game. Five minutes later,
Jesse Lankford (Fr, Cedar Falls, Iowa) launched a free kick over the Falcons' goalie's head and Stout led 2-0 only seven minutes into the game.
But the Falcons came soaring back. Alyssa Manor scored at 8:27 and Janae Baron knotted the score in the 18th minute. Stang assisted on all three goals in the game.
River Falls was whistled for 19 fouls, while Stout was tweeted 15 times and drew three yellow cards.
Stout will be at UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Oct. 16, then return home to face St. Olaf, Wednesday, Oct. 20.
