MENOMONIE, Wis. (January 9, 2010) -
Eric Hostetter (Jr, Stillwater, Minn.) scored a career-high 29 points, Saturday, to lead Stout to an 87-81 win over UW-Platteville, their second straight WIAC win and third straight win overall.
Hostetter did much of his work in the second half, as he dropped 20 points on 8-for-8 shooting from the field.
The Pioneers (9-5, 3-2) got out to an early lead that lasted most of the first half. Platteville led 14-4 just five minutes into the contest, but Stout (7-7, 2-4) chipped away at the lead, and took a lead of their own with 41 seconds left in the half.
Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Sr, Anoka, Minn.), who finished with 21 points had 10 of them in the first half, as well as five rebounds.
Stout opened the second half on a 6-0 run, quickly giving them a seven-point lead. The Blue Devils stretched their lead to double digits just minutes later and took an 11-point lead midway through the second period.
The Pioneers fought back, narrowing the gap to just five points with a minute and a half to go. Stout's
Erik Olson (Fr, Buffalo, Minn.) answered with two free throws, followed by a breakaway layup by Enerson-Matthews to put the game away.
Five Pioneers finished scoring in double figures. Platteville shot 17-18 from the free throw line.
Mahlon Thomas (Jr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and
Grant Franzen (Sr, Waverly, Iowa) both pulled down eight boards to lead all players.
The Blue Devils will return to action Saturday, Jan. 16, when they travel to UW-Oshkosh.
