EAU CLAIRE (September 4, 2009) - For the UW-Stout volleyball team, it was win one, lose one to nationally ranked teams during the first day of the UW-Eau Claire Tournament Friday.
The Blue Devils (3-1) were on both ends of 3-0 decisions, downing 21st ranked Gustavus Adolphus, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13, before dropping a 3-0 decision to the host 20th ranked Blugolds, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18, in the final contest of the day.
In the opener, freshman
Kate Mikutowski (Stillwater, Minn) led the Blue Devils in kills for the third straight match, notching 12 kills. Fellow freshman
Hope Weilage (Marshall, Minn) complemented Mikutowski's game by recording nine kills.
Kills were at a premium in the Blue Devils' matchup with the Blugolds (4-0). Stout recorded only 18 kills over the three sets, with Weilage and
Kendra Pagel (Sr, Wausau) each getting five.
Saturday, Stout will meet St. Scholastica at 10 a.m., and NAIA school Judson University at 12:15 p.m.
