PLATTEVILLE (September 26, 2009) - UW-Stout defeated Simpson College, 3-1, to open the second day of the UW-Platteville tournament, but then were beaten by host UW-Platteville, 3-1, in the final match of the day Saturday.
Stout (9-8) defeated Simpson College, 25-22, 26-24, 19-25, 25-23, before falling to the Pioneers, 25-14, 9-25, 25-15, 25-15.
Hope Weilage (Fr, Marshall, Minn) was named to the all-tournament team. Weilage had seven kills against Platteville.
Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) led Stout with 11 kills.
Mikutowski has 10 kills against Simpson, while
Tori Sandstrom (Fr, Cary, Ill) had her best match as a Blue Devil, racking up a team-high 11 kills. Stout had a defensive stand at the net, recording six solo blocks and 24 assisted blocks. Weilage had seven block assists and four solo blocks, while Pagel and
Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) each had five assisted blocks.
Stout hosts UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m., then will host Bethel University and Hamline University, Saturday, Oct. 3.
PLATTEVILLE (September 25, 2009) - UW-Stout lost both matches to open play at the UW-Platteville Tournament Friday.
Stout lost their first match to UW-Oshkosh, 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, and their second match to Loras College, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16.
Against the Titans,
Kendra Pagel (Sr, Wausau) had three of her five match kills to spur Stout in the third set win.
Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) tallied nine kills. Nichols led Stout at the net against Loras, connecting on eight kills,while
Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) had seven.
The Blue Devils (8-7) will meet Simpson College and host UW-Platteville Saturday.
