MENOMONIE (September 22, 2009) - When the rain returned, the goals started going in for both teams.

With about 24 minutes on the clock, Bethel University and UW-Stout started scoring, but the Royals came away with the 2-1 win at Nelson Field Tuesday night.

The game opened in a light, steady mist, which then let up late in the first half and through much of the second half. But when it picked up again, so did the action.

The Royals' Brittany Griffore scored in the 65th minute and what appeared to be a cross pass that went the entire mouth of the goal and slipped in on the far end.

But Stout (0-7-0) answered back seven minutes later when Jessica Price (Jr, Woodbury, Minn) took a pass in front of the net from Katie Ness (Jr, River Falls) and drove the ball home for her second goal of the season. The goal was also a marker for Bethel (7-0-1) because it was their first goal allowed on the season.

Stout had a couple of opportunities come up short and the Royals got the game winner with less than nine minutes to play when Anne Fazio picked up the ball after it reflected off the cross bar and scored.

For the Blue Devils, it was their sixth loss by one goal this season.

Kaitlin Arjes (Jr, Owatonna, Minn) recorded five saves for Stout, four in the first half. Her counterpart, Alyssa Riggs had seven saves.

Stout will be at UW-Platteville Saturday, Sept. 26, then return home for a 3 p.m. meeting with St. Norbert, Sunday, Sept. 27. Stout has three home games in October - Saturday, Oct. 3 vs. UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, Oct. 18 vs. St. Catherine and Saturday, Oct. 24 vs. UW-Whitewater.  Stout plays five road games in October,  not counting any possible playoff games.
