MENOMONIE (September 18, 2009) - Despite valiant comebacks in the opening set, UW-Stout fell to nationally ranked UW-Whitewater, 3-0, Friday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
In the first set, UW-Stout (8-4, 0-1) fell behind 8-1, but came back to take a 9-8 lead before the Warhawks (9-2, 1-0) went on to a 25-19 win. In the second set, Stout fell behind early, pulled close again, then were toppled, 25-17. There would be no comebacks in the third set with the Warhawks taking a commanding 25-10 win.
Kills were few and far between for the Blue Devils, with
Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) getting a Blue Devil high of five kills.
The Warhawks got 10 kills from three players each - Keri Klotzbuecher, Caitlin Hogan and Katy Krajnak.
Stout will entertain third ranked UW-Oshkosh (12-0, 0-0), Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon.
Stout will be at the UW-Platteville Tournament next weekend, and will open the tournament by meeting the Titans.
