MENOMONIE (September 16, 2009) - UW-Eau Claire converted a penalty kick almost four minutes into overtime to defeat UW-Stout, 2-1, Wednesday at Nelson Field.

The Blue Devils were called for a foul in the goal box and Shyla Gilbertson connected on the freebie to put an end to the game.

Stout (0-5-0, 0-1-0) took an early lead in the game when Jessica Price (Jr, Woodbury, Minn) broke through the Eau Claire (2-2-1, 1-0-0) defense, bounced the ball off her chest and booted the ball over the goalie's head for her - and the team's - first goal of the season.

The Blue Devils held serve with Eau Claire until 20 minutes into the second period when Richelle Shannon launched a rocket from about 20 yards out to tie the game.

Neither team had a lot of opportunities in the final 25 minutes of the game, but the Blugolds played in the Blue Devils' zone for nearly the entire overtime session.

Eau Claire outshot Stout, 17-6, on the night and put six shots compared to two shots to Stout on net. Kaitlin Arjes (Jr, Owatonna, Minn) recorded four saves, while Eau Claire's Emily Kidd had one save.

Stout will host UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m., then are off until Tuesday, Sept. 22 when they complete a five-game homestand by hosting Bethel University at 7 p.m.
