Stout drops Finlandia, fall in five to Luther

MENOMONIE (September 12, 2009) - UW-Stout had few problems with Finlandia University, but lost in five sets to Luthe College wrap up the UW-Stout Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Stout (8-3) handled Finlandia, 25-11, 25-12, 25-22, then lost to Luther College, 20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-9, in the final match of the day.

Alicia Mizer (Sr, Barron) and Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) were named to the all-tournament team.

Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) had 15 kills in the three set win over Finlandia, and she also added two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Sara Kjos (So, Hamburg, Minn) had three assisted blocks. Mizer had four service aces.

In the five set loss to Luther College, Mikutowski had 16 kills and Jamie Olson (So, Andover, Minn) and Nichols each had 11 kills, Nichols contributed a solo block and three assisted blocks. Hope Weilage (Fr, Marshall, Minn) was in on seven assisted blocks.

Stout opens conference play, Friday, Sept. 18 when they host UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m., then follow that up by hosting UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon.
