MENOMONIE (September 12, 2009) - Augustana College scored a goal with five second left in the first half to double score and went on to a 3-0 win over UW-Stout Saturday at Nelson Field.
The undefeated Vikings (4-0-0) scored in the 11th minute as Taylor Moesle took a corner kick and buried the shot. Paige Knippenberg scored unassisted as the 10 second countdown was read off, shooting from around 35 yards out on a shot the sailed to the top of the net.
The Vikings scored the final goal of the game in the 61st minute off a corner kick reception by Caitlin Winkelman.
The Vikings outshot Stout, 21-7, and put eight shots on net. Kaitlin Arjes (Jr, Owatonna, Minn) had four saves and
Bridget LaValle (Fr, St. Michael, Minn) made her first collegiate appearance in goal, turning away one shot. Kayla Radloff had four saves for Augustana.
A telling stat of the game was the difference in corner kicks. Stout (0-4-0) mustered one corner kick to nine for the Vikings.
Stout will open conference play by hosting UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. and will entertain UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
