MENOMONIE (September 11, 2009) - UW-Stout won one and lost one on the first day of the UW-Stout Volleyball Tournament Friday.
The Blue Devils opened the tournament by defeating Viterbo University, 3-1, a team that blanked the Stout, 3-0, last year to open the Blue Devils' tournament. The Blue Devils won the contest, 25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17.
#Kate Mikutowski3 (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) delivered 15 kills for Stout.
Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) put down 11 kills opposite Mikutowski. Stout had five solo blocks, with
Hope Weilage (Fr, Marshall, Minn), and
Kendra Pagel (Sr, Wausau) each getting two solos. weilage and Pagel also had two assisted blocks.
Andy Wojnowski (So, Crandon) had three service aces.
The Blue Devils (7-2) were blanked by St. Olaf University in the second contest, losing 25-18, 25-23, 25-20. Pagel was the only Stout player in double-digit kills, marking 10.
Stout will play Finlandia University at 2 p.m. and Luther College at 2 p.m.
