EAU CLAIRE (December 12, 2009) - UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire traded leads throughout the game, but it was the Blugolds that came out on top with an 83-71 win Saturday at Zorn Arena.
Stout (3-6, 0-4) led for the first 12 minutes of the game, but Eau Claire (6-3, 2-2) snagged the lead with eight minutes left in the first half and didn't give it up the Blue Devils took it back with about nine minutes remaining in the game. The teams traded leads for the next three minutes before Eau Claire went off on 9-0 run and went on to win the game.
Stout got 21 points from
Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Sr, Anoka, Minn), 16 from
Eric Hostetter (Jr, Stillwater, Minn) and 11 points apiece from
Mahlon Thomas(Jr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) and
Jordan Nelson (So, Maple Grove, Minn).
It wouldn't be enough to offset a 24 point effort from Geoff Probst, 23 points from Amadou Fofana and 14 points from Marcus Ruh.
With Enerson-Matthews' 21 points, he moved into ninth on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list with 1167 career points.
Stout returns to action Saturday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Viterbo University.
