Soccer team suffers 3-2 loss to Eagles late in game

LA CROSSE (October 10, 2009) - UW-Stout suffered their ninth one-goal loss of the season, Saturday, when they fell to UW-La Crosse, 3-2.

La Crosse (3-8-1, 2-4-0) got on the board first when Lindsay Wilde scored the first half's only goal.  The Eagles out-shot the Blue Devils (3-10-0, 2-4-0 WIAC), 14-9, in the first half.  Additionally, they attempted five corner kicks compared to zero by Stout.

The resilient Blue Devils answered back early in the second half.  Katie Ness (Jr, River Falls) evened the match up just five minutes into the second period with an unassisted goal.  Just ten minutes later, Jessica Price (Jr, Woodbury, Minn.) gave her team a 2-1 lead when she snuck a shot in the upper left corner of the net. 

Four minutes after the go-ahead goal, La Crosse's Laura Jacobson knotted the game at two with a goal off a corner kick. 

The 2-2 tie remained the score until a penalty was called on Stout with just over five minutes left in regulation.  Saskia Taylor converted the penalty kick into a 3-2 lead and eventually an Eagles win.

La Crosse attempted 26 shots compared to Stout's 17.  Freshman goalie Bridget LaVallee (St. Michael, Minn.) recorded nine saves on the afternoon.

Stout is off until Thursday,Oct. 15, at St. Benedict, when they play the first game of three games in four days stretch. Stout is at UW-Superior, Saturday, Oct. 17 and return home to host St. Catherine, Sunday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m.
