Stout defeats Hamline, fall to Bethel University

MENOMONIE (October 3, 2009) - UW-Stout split a pair of matches at their own triangular, Saturday, blanking Hamline University, 3-0, then getting tripped up later in the afternoon by Bethel University, 3-1.

Stout (10-10) defeated Hamline, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19, but lost to Bethel, 25-19, 26-24, 22-25, 26-24.

Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) had 10 kills, four block assists and 19 digs against the Pipers, while Kendra Pagel (Sr, Wausau) and Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) each had nine kills. Pagel finished the game with five block assists.

Mikutowski put up big numbers against Bethel with three of the sets going right down to the wire. She tallied a collegiate-best 19 kills. Hope Weilage (Fr, Marshall, Minn) and Nichols each put down 11 kills. Alicia Mizer (Sr, Barron) had 31 digs. Weilage added six block assists.

Stout will be at UW-Superior, Wednesday, Oct. 7.
