Blue Devils drop both matches in final day at Eau Claire

Stout splits first day, fall to Viterbo, blank Superior

EAU CLAIRE (October 24, 2009) - UW-Stout won the first set of the day, but then couldn't get back on the winning streak and dropped matches to Loras College and Lawrence University, Saturday on the final day of the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational.

The Blue Devils (12-17) lost to Loras, 3-1 by scores of 23-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-18, then were swept by Lawrence, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21.

In the opener, Stout got 12 kills apiece from Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) and Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale). Kim Labat (Jr, Marshall, Minn) had 43 assists.

Against Lawrence, Nichols again has 12 kills in the three set match.

Hope Weilage (Fr, Marshall, Minn) was named to the all-tournament team.

Stout will close out the season Oct. 30-31 at the UW-River Falls Invitational.

EAU CLAIRE (October 23, 2009) - UW-Stout split a pair of matches in the first day at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational Friday.

The Blue Devils (12-15) fell to Viterbo University, 3-2, and came back to defeat conference foe UW-Superior, 3-0.

Stout (12-15) lost to Viterbo, 26-24, 25-17, 18-25, 23-25, 16-14, then defeated Superior, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21.

Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) had 15 kills against Viterbo, while Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) had 12.  Kim Labat (Jr, Marshall, Minn) finished with 48 assists.

Mikutowski and Nichols traded numbers in the win over Superior, with Mikutowski putting down 15 kills and Nichols, 12.

Stout will play Loras College and Lawrence University, Saturday, Oct. 24.
