Late rally comes up short at Bethel

Bethel University 3, UW-Stout 2

ARDEN HILLS, Minn  (September 11, 2008) - Bethel University scored the first three goals of the game, but UW-Stout came back to score two goals in the final 20 minutes of the game to put a scare in the undefeated Royals, Thursday, as Bethel squeaked out a 3-2 win.

The Royals' (6-0-0) Kylie Dirks scored in the 29th minute, then added another goal in the 59th minute. Bethel's goalkeeper, Charli Sorensen, got into the scoring column, striking home with a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

Stout's Grace Salwasser (Fr, Cottage Grove, Minn) scored in the 70th minute on an assist by Cassie Palokangas (So, Apple Valley, Minn). Palokangas added an unassisted goal in the 81st minute.

The Blue Devil (1-3-1) defense held Bethel to only seven shots on net. Overall, Bethel outshot Stout, 10-8.

Stout opens conference play Saturday, Sept. 13 when they are at UW-Stevens Point. Stout's first home game is Wednesday, Sept. 17 when they will host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
